The 2005 Juno Awards’ set design and theme were based on Winnipeg being “the heart of Canadian rock and roll,” therefore Winnipeg bands were chosen as a tribute to the city. Still images of the artists were treated in black and white and set in an electric, matrix green background inspired by the LCD sets of the stage design. Type treatment was kept to a minimal to offset the dynamism of the motion graphics. As well, graphic elements related to music production i.e. sprockets, microphones, reels were used to help represent the “history of the recording industry” and give an effect of being in a giant tape deck. The “Nomination Pack” design, which displays the nominee groups, complements the opening graphics, but with the added colours: red, blue and orange. In this case, the typeface is synched with the audio creating a shuddering edit.
